What Good Can Committees Of Safety Do Today?

Here are a few of the things that a community COS working with communities within the county, and other communities around the state can achieve, today:

  • Conduct political efforts within the community.
  • Join with others in the state to make concerted political efforts.
  • Participate in national political efforts.
  • Provide educational seminars, meetings and publish educational information.
  • Network with others of like mind around the country.
  • Publish their webpage here (free to all Committees of Safety)
  • Join together to provide assistance to those members of the local, state or national community that find themselves in need.
  • Provide funds for the families of patriots imprisoned by the federal government.
  • Provide hubs of communication to investigate wrongdoings of the government within the community, or in the surrounding area (for example, the truth about what happened in situations such as Roby, Illinois).
  • Select leadership from those you know within your community.
  • Send local delegates to state sessions, if and when warranted.
  • Likewise, should a national convention be necessary.

A committee of Safety is an association of people with common interests. What do you need to start one? Just the desire.

The Founding Fathers established Committees of Correspondence under the direction of Samuel Adams. As the situation grew worse, these Committees adopted the need to provide for Safety and Protection. Some Committees were allowed to act in the stead of the colonial assemblies during their recess. There was no illegitimate or unlawful aspect to any of the Committees. They were open to all who would, after the beginning of hostilities, subscribe to the Association. Even after the Declaration, the British never held the Committees for any acts against the Crown. Prudently, however, the more active members made a point of being scarce if the British were in town.

Officers of the Committees generally held there office for either six months or one year. They then, voluntarily, stepped down to allow others to carry out the responsibilities of office. No man was above another, nor could any become a ruler. Consensus seemed to be the rule within the Committees.

In May of 1774, the Boston Committee had sent a circular throughout the colonies -- asking for the other colonies to stop trading with the British. In New York, the Committee called for a continental congress to deal with the issue. Their response to Boston, dated May 23, 1774, was the proposal that resulted in the First Continental Congress.

MIRACLE Message from AMMON BUNDY!

Ammon wants everyone to know that God is still mindful of each one of you all and that he is there watching over. He shared with us an experience he had. Upon being transferred to Nevada he was chained to a bench for 24 hours. They didn't feed him all that day. He was cold and tired and they didn't put him into his cell until the early hours of the next day. When he did get to a cell it was beyond dirty and they left him chained to the bed all day without checking on him or feeding him. By night time he was SO extremely hungry the pain in his stomach was unbearable. He knelt in his cell and cried as he prayed. That God would please hear him and please show even a small tender mercy. He was there for several more hours. This was the night before court. And he decided to start banging his shackles together to try to get someone's attention to help him. For a long time he keep banging his shackles together until finally the guy in the cell next to him asked him what was going on. Ammon told him he was starving. That they hadn't fed him for 2 days. The guy said he would try to get a guards attention. He got a guards attention and the guard finally came over and Ammon told him that he was starving. That he hadn't received any food for 2 days. The guard said to him that the kitchen was closed for the night. Ammon kept praying. A little while later in the late night hours a guard came to his door and said you are coming with me. The guard took him to his brother's cell. HE TOOK HIM TO MEL'S CELL. They were able to be cell mates for that night. Ammon said he was just praying for a small tender mercy but this was a HUGE miracle. They have restricted any contact with his brothers and that night they were able to hug and to spend a whole night together. They cried together and talked for hours. Mel gave Ammon all of his commissary and any extra food he had he gave to Ammon so that finally after 2 days he could be fed. The next day Ammon had court. When he left he hoped that Mel would still be there on his return but knew that would probably not happen. Court was long. Ammon got back late and again went a whole day without eating. He got back after dinner and was facing another day and night hungry. When he got to his cell Mel was gone and had been transferred but Mel left Ammon his whole dinner that he had placed under some things so it wasn't in direct view. Ammon cried and wanted everyone to know that even though it was only for a night that he got to share with his brother, he said he knows that was a miracle sent directly from God. He knows that God is hearing all of our prayers. It was confirmed to him 100 fold during this time.
